Who is responsible
Price The Job is run by Jacob Orsborn-Smith. For privacy questions, email hello@pricethejob.co.uk.
Information you send by email
If you contact Price The Job, the message may include your email address, name and anything else you choose to provide. It is used to answer the message, assess corrections and maintain an appropriate record of editorial correspondence.
Please do not send customer names, addresses, payment information or other personal details that are not needed for the query.
Rate survey information
The rate survey collects a broad postcode area, trade, submitted rates, experience band, optional comments and the time the response was created. It does not request names, company names, email addresses or full postcodes.
Optional comments should not include customer details or anything that identifies another person. A broad postcode area and a comment may still be personal information in some circumstances, so responses are handled as potentially identifiable data rather than assumed to be fully anonymous.
Abuse prevention
When a response is submitted, the service creates a salted one-way visitor hash from limited connection data. The hash is used only to identify repeated or abusive submissions. The raw value used to create it is not stored in the survey response. The hash is removed after it becomes more than 24 hours old by an hourly database job.
Cloudflare may process IP addresses and request logs when it delivers and protects the site and its survey API. This is separate from the one-way hash stored with a survey response.
Why the information is used
Survey responses are used to group and interpret UK trade rates, document the size and limits of the sample and improve published pricing guidance. Abuse prevention data is used to protect the quality and reliability of that dataset. Survey responses are not used as a sales or outreach list.
Price The Job relies on its legitimate interests in producing useful statistical trade pricing guidance and protecting the integrity of the survey. The collection is deliberately limited and submissions are published only in groups. You can object to this use by contacting the address above.
Service providers
Supabase processes and stores the survey database. Cloudflare processes website and API requests for hosting, delivery and security. These providers apply their own platform security controls. Information is sent over HTTPS in normal use.
Cookies and analytics
Price The Job does not intentionally set advertising or analytics cookies at launch. Cloudflare may process limited technical information needed to deliver and protect the service.
Sharing and retention
Survey and email information is not sold. It is shared only with providers needed to host the site, operate the survey database, receive email or meet a legal obligation.
Individual survey submissions are kept for up to 24 months so annual figures can be checked and compared, then automatically deleted. Published statistics may be kept for longer because they contain grouped figures rather than individual responses. Email correspondence is kept only while it remains useful for its purpose or is needed to manage a legal obligation or dispute.
Your rights
Depending on the circumstances, UK data protection law can give you rights to ask for access, correction, deletion, restriction or objection. Survey responses contain no contact field, so Price The Job may not be able to identify a particular response without enough supporting information. You can raise a request using the contact email above. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office if you believe your information has been handled improperly.
Changes to this notice
This notice will be reviewed whenever the collection, providers, legal basis or retention period changes. The date at the top will change when the text is updated.
